There are many research which suggests “No Cow Milk Before 1 Year Old”, have u ever wondered why is it so!
Let’s see the scientific reason behind it.
Babies don’t need anything else, other than Breast Milk or Formula before 6 months of their age. Recommended by WHO and AAP.
Reasons:
1. Hard To Digest
High amount of protein called Casein in cow’s milk is hard for babies to digest. As a result u can see symptoms like blood in stool and it can also stress out their kidneys.
2. Iron Deficiency
Fresh cow’s milk has significantly less amount of iron as compared to Breast Milk or Fortified Formula.
As we have seen it’s hard to digest which can irritate the lining of intestine endings up blood in stool. Sometimes blood can not be seen by naked eye but can be enough to make a child anaemic.
3. Low In Essential Nutrients
Cow’s milk is not suggested until 1 year cause it dose not contain good amount of essential fats which is very important for early growth in initial days.
4. Risk Of Allergies
2% to 3% of children can develop Cow’s Milk allergy if introduced to early. Symptoms like Rash, constipation or diarrhoea can be seen.
Waiting until 1 year of age will help a child to develop his immune system, which could lower the chances of getting an allergic reaction to cow’s milk.
5. High levels of Potassium And Sodium
This could cause various problems in children like electrolyte disturbance. That’s why it’s important to avoid cow’s milk until 1 year.
In our society, older people believe starting cow’s milk at early age is ok (which is totally wrong). They would actually suggest that it’s a substitute for Breast Milk.
The only substitute for Breast milk is Infant Formula, and babies don’t need any thing else besides these before 6 months, Not Even Water. After 6 months you can introduce solids as complementary food, read WHEN TO INTRODUCE SOLIDS for more details.
When did you introduced cow’s milk to your little bub? Please share with me in the comment box below!

If Father Is Positive
Make sure he is isolated and have no physical contact with the child.
If Mother Is Positive
And child is old enough to take care of themselves, avoid physical contact and be in isolation.
If your child is young, you can be with your child to take care of him/her while taking appropriate precautionary measures.
• Wear a mask while you are breast feeding or taking care of the baby. Make sure your nose and mouth are covered properly.
• Avoid touching your face then touching any surface or your baby.
• Wash your hands and use sanitizer before touching their things or them.
• I would prefer wearing an apron while baby is with you, sometimes when we sneeze or cough our clothes can get some of infected droplets on it.
If Both Are Positive
Please Do Not send your child to your relatives or friends, cause their is a high chance your child is exposed and can spread infection. You can be with your child by taking precautionary measures mentioned above.
If you have a care giver at home who is not positive and can take care of your baby, Mother could pump her breast milk and the person who is not infected can feed the baby.
This could be a very difficult time for parents, but it’s important to take care of your child and yourself too!
Keep monitoring yourself for symptoms. Mainly your Saturation and Temperature and if your symptoms are getting better or worst.
Keep an close eye on your child and watch for symptoms like fever, cough, shortness of breath or rashes. If you suspect any of these symptoms contact your pediatrician right away.
Positivity
Keep reminding yourself that this is just a Phase that shall pass. Surround yourself and your family with positive vibes.

According to the a new study, top brands baby foods contain toxic heavy metals, which can cause several consequences to a human body, not only kids but adults too. Not just baby foods but some store bought Indian spices like turmeric, Curry powder has high level of these toxic heavy metals too.
It can damage functioning of liver, kidney, lungs and other vital organs. Long term contact with some heavy metals can also disturb our endocrine and reproductive system.
It’s more risky for babies and kids as they are in their developmental age. Some studies says exposure to heavy metals can cause a permanent decrease in IQ. It can also lead to permanent brain damage.
According to FDA
• Inorganic Arsenic damages central nervous system.
• Lead can affect learning and lowered IQ
• Cadmium can develop Attention-Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD)
• Mercury can cause Autistic behavior at the age of 2-3 yrs.
These heavy metals are potential danger to human health, specially babies and kids. FDA says, even low level of harmful metals from food source, can add up to a level of concern.
But, not all heavy metals are harmful for human body, metals like
• Copper helps with iron absorption prevent cardiovascular diseases.
• Magnesium helps our body to control energy have healthy bones, muscle and nerve.
• Iron helps to form haemoglobin to transport oxygen from lungs to body tissues.
• Nickel helps with glucose metabolism.
• Zinc plays important role in building immunity.
All these are actually essential for proper body function.
As a Doctor and a Mom, my advice to every parent out there would be, Try to avoid packaged food as much as you can. I know it’s hard in the lifestyle we all follow these days, but we can try!
For me everything which comes out of a package is a treat, which comes after a meal. For more information read Difference Between Snacks and Treat|How Are They Different

Have you ever thought how kids explore the world around us!!
By their senses.
Touching,
Smelling,
looking,
Hearing and Tasting.
These are the 5 sensory skills which plays a very important role for brain development.
Sensory Play Meaning
Sensory play activities stimulates all the senses to help brain development. Through which a child can understand how world works. It also promotes motor development.
There are two types of motor skills
Gross Motor Skills
It involves coordination of hands and legs, for example running, jumping, crawling & object control like catching, kicking.
Fine Motor Skills
Which involves smaller movements of fingers, feet, toes. For example picking up an object, writing, holding a spoon.
So basically sensory play activities are fun learning experience for kids. It keeps them engaged and also helps them to concentrate and come up with strategies to get the job done.
This was my take on sensory play for toddlers. You can come up with many sensory play activities using day today objects.
Sensory play does not have to be messy, there are many sensory play ideas you can find on our page on Facebook and Instagram.

Prewriting skills are the fundamental children need to develop before they are able to write. These skills contribute to the child’s ability to hold and use a pencil, and the ability to draw, write, copy, and colour. A major component of pre–writing skills are the pre-writing shapes.

I make sure, my kiddo is having 3 proper meals and a snack or two through out the day! Which goes as
• Breakfast
• Lunch
• Evening snack
• Dinner
Portions are managed according to her needs, following Responsive Feeding.
Parents are often mistaken about the difference between snacks & Treats. A snack is an important part of nutrition, should be taken as seriously as meals. When it comes to kids nutrition always remember, “Every bite counts!”
Snack vs Treats
A small portion of a meal or say a light meal is a snack, which we eat between meals. Which is nutritious.
While treats are less nutritious, usually very high in sugar & sodium. This is what makes them irresistible for kids, or even for adults.
I personally count packaged food as a treat, cookies, popcorn, store bought cupcakes, chips. Most of these have almost negligible nutrition value and are very high on sugar and sodium.
Studies says, kids who are exposed to foods which are high in sugar & sodium can be obese in future and have heart related illness.
We can not keep our kids away from junk food forever, that’s not even possible in the life style we follow these days! Once in a while treats are ok! Just make sure they are not skipping healthy meals cause they are full on treats. Moderation is the key here.

Transition poop

New born babies usually pass greenish color poop, Meconuim. It’s made of proteins, fats, cells and intestinal secretions. It is totally normal. Actually you should be relieved, you want baby to pass meconium rather that it sitting in babies intestine.
Low Fat Content in Breastmilk

While baby latches to the breast what comes first is a Foremilk. Which is low in fat and high in lactose, Looks watery! Then comes Hindmilk which has high fat content and is important for babies growth, looks like whole milk.
If baby is getting full on foremilk and not getting enough hindmilk, this can cause milk to transit faster through gut than usual, could cause digestive problems and lead to green poop. Please contact to lactation consultant.
Drooling

Around 3 months of age babies usually starts to drool a lot as the salivary glands starts to produce more saliva. Sometimes babies swallows the excessive saliva, which can make there tummy irritated. And this could cause green poop.
Diet

If baby is on solids and eating greens like spinach, fenugreek.
Medicine

Poop can also turn green as a result of taking iron supplements. This is totally normal. The color just indicates Unabsorbed iron.
Diarrhoea

Baby may have viral infection or stomach flu, which can lead to diarrhoea, watery green poop. If you think this could be the case, please contact your pediatrician immediately.
Hunger

If baby is not fed well, not getting enough milk this could result in starvation stool. If you think baby is not eating well or not getting enough milk, Is fussy even after feeding, please contact your pediatrician.
